I love to read. Plain and simple. I love the smell and the weight of the book in my hands. I love opening to the first page, entering a world and traveling through it with each turn of the page.
Books have always had a strong hold on my heart and, to be fair, my life. It probably started with my parents reading to me every night when I was little. Thanks Mom and Dad!
I was always the kid who’d have a book with them where ever they went. Even now, I quite often have a book going.
Recently I’ve read some very good books and I thought I would share them with you. I won’t give a full summary or anything like that; I know a lot of people don’t like spoilers (I’m one of them). Instead I’ll just give a quick description that, hopefully, will give you a better idea of what the book is about and if it is something that you would like to read.
So, without further ado, here we go…
- The Martian by Andy Weir
I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book! I am a big fan of sci-fi and if you are too, I highly recommend it.
This is a novel about an astronaut who gets stranded on Mars and his efforts to survive and return home.
I love the format. The story is told through the main character’s mission logs. It does a very good job at making you feel as if you’re part of the story.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I am defiantly going to see it soon.

2. Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
This book held me in its grip from the very first page. This is darker than most books that I read, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The main character, a journalist, must return to her home town to write about the murders of two young girls.
Gillian Flynn does an amazing job at drawing the reader in and surprising them at every turn.
It’s a bit dark (it is about murder after all), but I defiantly recommend it.

3. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
I really enjoyed this book. Within the first chapter I was hooked.
This book is told from the perspective of a teen boy with Asperger’s Syndrome. He is trying to find out who killed a neighborhood dog his world quickly begins to change.
I loved the perspective of the main character. I’ve never read anything like it and enjoyed having a new type of narrator.
It’s an intriguing book and a very good read. I highly recommend it.

Hi, your blog looks great!I’ve been meaning to read The Martian and I haven’t read Sharp Objects, but since I read Gone Girl a few months ago and literally couldn’t put it down(it was so gripping and surprising srsly) I’ve been wanting to read more of her books so I’ll have to check it out soon! Thanks! I haven’t read Gone Girl, but I’ve heard it’s good. I’ll have to check it out!
Thanks for reading my poem and giving me encouragement! I look forward to exploring your posts. Your post prompts me to wave the flag for Graham Swift – I think Waterland is a truly great book. His new book has been well reviewed but I’ve not read it yet (Mothering Sunday, I think it’s called)
I’ll check it out 🙂 thank you for the recommendation!
Just reading The Curious Incident of The Dog at Night Time at the moments. You’re on the button saying the very first chapter hooks you and you simply need to continue reading. Looking forward to more of your recommendations.
Thanks 🙂 I’m glad you’re enjoying it! Keep reading, it’s a good one
Glad to hear one of Gillian Flynn’s other books holds up. I was absolutely floored by Gone Girl but some authors are really a one hit wonder so I’ve been reading reviews a lot even before picking up a book by an author I already enjoyed.
