Hello, lovely readers! This month you have chosen the words “beeswax” and “corduroy” as the inspiration for this post. Thank you to all who voted and all of you who read these posts. It means so much to me that you keep coming back! Enjoy!
There are two things I remember about Carmen
The beeswax candles and the corduroy pants
we weren’t really sure why she wore those pants
I’m not really sure she knew why she wore them
But she did
without a worry or care in the world.
It is a beautiful thing to see someone so sure of themselves
it trickles into the world around them
bettering it and making others more certain of their own self.
We all have that thing; the thing that makes others say “I wish”
Maybe it’s our hair color, or glasses, or our smile
But for Carmen, it was the corduroy pants.
We loved her for it.
We loved her for so many things.
For the hugs, the kisses, the sleepovers
She taught us the power and importance in taking time to think of others
She never made the candles for herself
There was only a few in the house
and those ones we made her.
Every candle she made went out to someone else
to brighten their home and bring them light when the day was dark
She made the beeswax candles as a way to share her love
They brought light, beauty, and comfort into the home
and the lives of the people around her.
Carmen was like that.
Pure, authentic, caring, warm, loving and herself
To others, she might have seemed quiet, weird, standoffish, out of touch
but to us she is
beeswax and corduroy
A beautiful, quiet memory. Perfect for a grey winter day.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!
How terrific was that! Thanks.
