A single leaf floats gently past my toes
Calm waters in the harbor carry it along
I lift my toe and watch ripples form
The small golden leaf rocks up and down
Rises and falls always moving out to sea
My eyes watch beauty but my heart yearns
It is jealous of the small golden leaf
Why can it not float out there too?
What makes it different? What makes it not?
Many would say simply it is my heart
Others because it can not float in water
I say because I have not learned how.
My eyes watch, my heart does not see
My heart wants to float carefree and joyful,
However it must rule its own domain alone
That domain needs constant love and understanding
And that is what the heart is for.
Now my eyes watch and my heart sings
The small golden leaf hears the wonderful song
As it floats closer to the gate out
A gentle breeze blows it back in
Ripples form again and the breeze is gone
I sigh and look out at the ships
There is a soft nudge I look down
The small golden leaf is there once more.
Thank you for a second entry involving a leaf.
You’re very welcome
