Bees flittered between brightly colored flowers, which were swaying in the light morning breeze. Birds chatted to each other from neighboring trees, welcoming the day. A few clouds scuttled by over head pushed along by the breeze which was much stronger high above the tree tops. The sky was the light, faded blue of early morning. If the grasses were examined closely enough tiny dew drops could be seen as they reflected the world upside down. Slowly, the drops slid down the blades to fall on the moist soil below where ants were scurrying about amongst the forest of grass.
Dog watched all of this, sitting attentively in the grass and sniffing the fresh air that the breeze had brought. There were scents from all over, telling Dog valuable information of who had been in the area recently, where they’d gone, who they’d been with. As the sun rose a little by little, slowly rays of sunlight began to peek through the slats of fence, stripping the garden with bright bands of gold. One of the bands illuminated a something hard and shiny. Standing, Dog trotted over to investigate, finding a beetle attempting to stay aloft on the end of a blade of grass. Dog watched as the blade bent beneath the beetle’s weight, drooping down until the beetle gave up and sped away off into the grass forest in the opposite direction of Dog.
Content with the investigation, Dog wandered over to the largest patch of sunlight shining through the fence and lay down in the damp yard, alert and watchful.
This is a cute little post…
