rain pounds against the windows
breezes blow at the leaves
puddles begin to form
under the weeping clouds
silhouettes dance across the wall
flutter in the breeze
teasing me into coming closer
I take a breath and you leave
I met you so very long ago
we played, we jumped, we danced
until the sun went down
day by day we were getting older
next began the time of
pencils, pens and paper
the early morning sun
and the apple for the desk
we’d play imagination and
create turkeys with our hands
we’d swing from bars of metal
and see fairies in the sand
then one september day
it all changed forever
teachers went by last names
and the halls were missing fun
differences became apparent
between us and the others
yet we stuck together
through all the stabbing knives
one day we had had enough
we hugged, we promised, we parted
never once believing
we would again see each other
days turned to weeks
weeks to months
I cried from time to time
wishing it were different
the sunny days of
jumping dancing and laughter
were eaten by the clouds
and by stacks of non-fiction books
the clouds then begin to weep
the puddles begin to form
a single silhouette
walks across the wall
Maybe your most powerful one yet.
Thank you!
