“Don’t let go.”
“I have to, you know that.”
“I know…just don’t. I’m not ready.”
“Will you ever be?”
“Just don’t.”
“Come on, I have to go.”
“No, you don’t.”
“Yes I do, and you know that too.”
“But will I ever see you again?”
“You will.”
“Will I? Promise?”
“Yes, of course.”
“How do I know I can trust you?”
“You can, have I ever given you a reason not to?”
“There was that one time…”
“And I explained why, and I’m not starting in on that again.”
“I’ll miss you.”
“I know.”
“Will you miss me?”
“Every second.”
“No, don’t let go yet.”
“I have to, or I’m going to miss it.”
“Then miss it.”
“You know I can’t.”
“It’s not fair.”
“I know.”
“Can I come with you?”
“We’ve been over this.”
“I don’t care how boring it is. I want to come.”
“You’ll be bored after a week. And then you’d still have three to go.”
“Fine, I’ll stay here. Just come back.”
“I will, don’t worry.”
“A goodbye kiss?”
“Of course.”
“Okay, I guess I’ll have to let you go.”
“I’ll see you soon.”
“See you soon. Safe travels.”
“Bye.”
“Wait no! One more hug. Okay, now you can go.”
“Take care of your self.”
“I will. Goodbye.”
“Bye.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
An emotional parting. Great dialogue!
Thank you!
As a parent the time comes to let go. I think the two most important statements in your dialogue for me were “I love you” and “Take care of yourself”.
I can’t imagine what it’s like to say goodbye to a child, must be incredibly hard.
Oh! It is so incredibly hard to say goodbye to a child. 🙂
Beautifully written! I felt like I was there!
Thanks 🙂 I’m glad it was able to do that for you
